ICC World Cup 2019 Schedule

ICC World Cup 2019 Start Date, Host Nation

The upcoming Cricket World Cup 2019 is the 12th edition of cricket World Cup which is scheduled to be hosted by England and Wales. The tournament will kick off on 30th May 2019 to 14th July 2019. Total 48 matches will be played in the span of 1 and half month.

The hosting rights of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 were awarded in April 2006, England withdrew from bidding to host ICC World Cup 2015. The first match of ICC WC 2019 will be played at the Oval while the grand finale which is scheduled on 14th July will be played at Lords. It is the fifth time, England will host ICC Cricket World Cup following 1975, 1979, 1983, and 1999 tournament.

ICC World Cup 2019 Schedule World Cup finals thrice on the trot. They had won the first two editions in 1975 and 1979 but lost to India in 1983. But the Caribbeans never reached the finals of the tournament ever again. In 1996, they came very close but lost unbelievably to Australia.

2. England is the only team who have lost in three World Cups in three decades, i.e., 1975, 1987 and 1992. Graham Gooch is the only player to have featured in all the three finals and ended in the losing side.

3. India is the only Asian side to have won the quadrennial tournament twice (in 1983 and 2011). Pakistan (1992) and Sri Lanka (1996) have won it once each.
4. Vinod Kambli played only 17 Test matches which included two back to back double tons. Kambli’s Test average is 54.20 while his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar averages 53.78 after 200 Tests.

5. Sunil Gavaskar was the first batsman to reach 10,000 Test runs and he ended his career scoring 34 Test centuries. But did you know he was out three times off the first ball of a Test? The bowlers to dismiss him were: Geoff Arnold (Edgbaston, 1974), Malcolm Marshall (Kolkata, 1984) and Imran Khan (Jaipur, 1987).

2003 = Sachin Tendulkar of India.

2015 = Mitchell Starc of Australia.

England will open the tournament at the Oval on May 30, when they take on South Africa while reigning champions Australia will start their title defense on June 1 against Afghanistan in a day/night match in Bristol. The finals are slated to take place on July 14 at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
